What I Learned When I Finally Understood My Brain: Living With Aphantasia

In this episode, I talk about something I’ve never shared publicly before — not because it was a secret, but because I didn’t have the language for it until a few years ago. I have aphantasia. It’s a part of how my brain works that, once I finally understood it, made so many things in my life make sense. How I learn. How I remember. How I process. How I stay grounded. How I move through conflict. All of it.

This isn’t a dramatic reveal or a “fix your life in five steps” moment. It’s simply another chapter in the Know Thyself series — the ongoing work of understanding who we are, how we’re wired, and how much easier life becomes when we stop fighting our own design.

If you’ve ever had that moment where something about yourself finally clicks into place, you’ll understand exactly why I wanted to share this. Enjoy the episode below on Youtube or listen to the audio version.

All About The Joy isn’t just one show — it’s a small network of four different conversations. Most of what I share here on Substack comes from Culture & Consequence, but every now and then I bring in one of the other shows. Today’s post is from Carmen Talk, the space where I slow down, get personal, and explore the deeper “why” behind how we move through the world.

At the end of the day, it really is all about the joy.

Until next time,

Carmen
