This political nightmare is almost over. The midterm elections were yesterday and the Democrats took over the House and the Senate easily – and made Fetterman irrelevant.
More importantly, the America I know it can be – is still here. It looks like US!
We have a governor of Georgia named Keisha.
We have a governor of California Named Xavier,
We have a Senator named Abdul –
There are Gay senators – oh, sorry – openly Gay senators, a native American Governor – I think indigenous is better to use – either way with respect, Ms. Deb is in charge and honestly, it’s a shame that hasn’t always been the case.
I stayed up most of the night crying at every single election. Texas turned Blue…
My ugly cry was U-G-L-Y!
Florida was a disappointment, but you know I wasn’t even hoping for much there. Didn’t even know the governor running on the Republican side was a dumb-ass Black man. (I said what I said).
The relief is palpable. I did not sleep long, but it was the first time I slept hard and comfortable in a long time.
Now the hard work begins. Make no mistake-this is how Jan 6th started. Marc Elias from Democracy Docket – Superhero – who has been working tirelessly in the courts – reminded us this morning in his newsletter that the hard work begins now! He’s right.
But its not even 6am yet and my coffee is brewing and I can smell the deliciousness in the air!
Its not just the coffee – its my country finding its footing again – and I’m feeling more than relief – I’m feeling a sense of pride once again in the good people who have always known:
We. Are. Better. Than. This!
With joy & hope,
Carmen
I too feel pride in America once again! I couldn’t stay up too late last night but felt some comfort when learning of the woman who was elected to be governor of Georgia. I felt like doing a cartwheel this morning when I learned that Talarico *won in *Texas. And next came Kansas and Maine . Wow . . . What an election!
